Default Steam - Offline Mode

I just got my laptop, and i want to be able to play my games in single player mode. But i tried today, and when i signed in it asked me if i want to launch itin offline mode, i say yes, and it logs me in. But whenever i try to launch a game, it doesnt allow me because it says its offline.

Do any of you know how to get steam games to work in offline mode?

You have to make sure all of the games are updated that you want to play and that you selected "remember my information" when typing you username and password. Also, chack to see if the game is ready for offile mode by right clicking on the game in the "My Games" thing in steam and hitting properties.

Just start up HL2 while connected, then pull the internet cable when the game starts. Thats what I used to do with HL2 when i had 56k so I didnt spend all day online.

I dont really need to know this anymore, seeing that i sold my laptop. But what i was wondering was if there was a way to load steam while offline, since i wouldnt be near an internet connection i couldnt just "pull the plug".

STEAM is very finickey about being online. Usually even if you want to play by yourself you still must make it think that you are on a LAN at the very least. Make sure that you have a LAN set up in the game and that you are only launching the game to the main menu, not to a server or browser window.

i have this problem again, i have a CSS, DoDS, and HL2 100% downloaded. When i load steam, it asks me if i want to retry connecting, or start in offline mode. I choose offline mode, and i see my games list, but when i try to launch it says that it can't perform this operating in offline mode. What can i do?

It sounds like your launching steam first? If so then dont. launch Half Life 2 from the "Half-Life 2" Icon. There is no reason why It should not run offline.
