Problem Logging Off

After pressing log off, the windows start logging off and saving my settings but after it does that it doesn't go back to the welcome screen, instead the screen goes off black.

When you say the screen goes black, do you mean it shuts off, go in standby? What do you need to do to get back to the welcome screen?

I have a fast user switching and no the monitor doesn't turn off, a black screen appears and the computer freezes and asks for a blanket.

So the machine is still running. I think it could be a virus or some corrupt files.
