No Local Area Connection created

Hello,
I am trying to connect into a LAN using a USB/Ethernet converter. My problem is that my computer doesn't create a new Local Area Connection under Network Connections and therefore I am unable to connect to the network.
Any suggestions/solutions pls???

It is most likely because of no driver is installed. Do you have the driver cd for the network card?
If network card is internal one, your motherboard cd should have the driver. That is the only problem I can think of
