Microsoft are offering Visual Studio Express Edition for free until November the 7th 2006.
You can download:
  • Visual Web Developer
  • Visual Basic.NET 2005
  • Visual C#.NET 2005
  • Visual C++.NET 2005
  • Visual J#.NET 2005
  • SQL Server 2005
  • .NET Framework 2

You must register them first but afterwards they are 100% free forever
So get downloading from:

MS Visual Studio contains all the programs I listed above, anyone who wants to learn to program should download Visual Studio and follow some tutorials

NOTE: I suggest starting with Visual Basic

I was thinking of buying Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 professional Edition but it costs (let me check) £626.28 which roughly converts to $1,084.61 for our US friends across the pond. Oh well, looks like I'm gonna have to remortgage the house

Edit: Does the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition have the Visual Basic?

very nice indeed,
but they are such huuge files, and my 2gig limit won;t cope with that
will have to save the links and download them at school

damn, u need SP2 installed, and i cant install that due to "some reason"....... ill leave you to work out wot that reson is.
