Newbie looking at new speakers

I'm looking into getting some speakers for my laptop while I am away at school.

How are the Logitech Z-640's? From what it sounds like, it is the best deal for it's price range, at only $50.

I have one question though, and that is regarding the system requirements:

How do I know if my computer meets the requirements for this? :

-For 5.1 surround sound: any 4 or 6 channel sound card
-For Dolby Digital 5.1 sound: sound card or software DVD player with built-in Dolby Digital decoding
