Graphics Card's chipset and memory

A graphic card peformance mainly depends on the graphic chipset or the memory ? Like ATI RADEON 9800 128 MB RAM AND 9600 256 MB RAM , please give me the best choice. Let say if i buy either one of this stuff for a contented graphic gameplay and less lagging game speed.

i would go for the 6800

it performs better as the 9600 one

u get more graphic performace if the card has more pipelines and also the higher memory clock speed, high gpu clock speed isn't so important as the mem clock speed but of course the higher the better :-), and the best card out there for not so much money would be radeon 9800 pro the 128MB edition, it doesnt have to be ATI brand but i think that thats the best choice

Thanks a lot , but would that be an advantage if more memory on the graphic card to reduce the lagging problem ?

can u please tell me whats your budget and the card interface you want (AGP or PCI-E) cuz that would help me a lot, do you wanna buy video card over newegg, zipzoomfly etc. and can the card be some other model except 9600 and 9800, there are better cards out there.

Except the 6600GT is a far superior card for 'not so much more'.

well...for some older cards, you might get more memory but the memory is slower, they do it to balance the price. So, if you want to reduce the lagging problem, the best bet is to buy a better card.

More VRAM allows for more textures & geometry data storage allowing the GPU to access it rapidly when needed. It doesn't speed up the actual processing however.
