Default Problem with installing hard drive

I have a p4 with a 160GB hard drive with winxp. I want to install an old hard drive from my old computer to my new computer as a secondary drive. I want to copy the files off the computer before formatting it. When i install the hard drive, the computer does not detect anything on my computer and windows does not load. my harddrive and cd/dvd drive don't work until i take out the old harddrive. I already changed the jumper settings on both the drives to master and slave. I also don't have a floppy drive to boot from.
Can someone please help me?

Thanks

your comp is probably trying to boot from the older drive, did you try setting yor boot priority in bios?

When I try to go into the bios and change the boot priority nothing shows up. My harddrive and my cd/dvd rom won't show up.
