If money is no object then why socket 754 instead of socket 939?

Look at the moment Im sitting on a AMD 1800xp so naturaly its time to upgrade. The reason I choose 754 socet was just because I found the chip I wanted then found a mobo to suit it. the socet type really didnt come into the equasion. But I really dont know the differance apart from 754 is older or something. Is there any differance? The Machine Im building will be mostly for gaming. Im looking to spend about $2000 australian. I know I cheaped out on the mobo and chip but I wanted to save money for the GPU and RAM

Your still going to want a decent CPU and a motherboard to use it. Get the 939 socket w/ an Athlon 64 3200 or up. Get a PCI-E x16 GPU like a 6800GS or something. And for RAM just go with Corsair ValueSelect. That would be a decent gaming system, much better then one with 754 CPU and a Sempron.
