Hey, I can’t find a thread, which I am sure, is here about this topic
I am looking for a laptop, not for gaming, for schoolwork, and plenty of space, but also the possibility to plays games but its not high priority Ive heard great things about apple, but I notice its speed of 1.33mhz compared to a laptop of such as dells with 1.6 to 1.73mhz for the same price My friend told me an apple of 1.33mhz runs faster than that of other operating systems because of its design Can anyone help me with my problem? I was planning to get a dell inspiron 9300 of hp pavilion I think its a 6400 But then the idea of an apple iBook G4 looks quite nice |

A pentium M 1.73Ghz cpu would be much better than apple's 1.33Ghz cpu.
If you dont want to play any games, then go ahead and get the apple, but if you dont want to run into compatibility issues then go with a windows laptop. Preferrable a Pentium M and a GeForce Go series video card, if you want excellent performance and a nice laptop for gaming.

a pentium M is one of the best performing chips on the market considering its clockspeed. so that rules out the iBook, especialy seeing as you're looking at the possibility of games.
HP and Dell... i've heard good and bad about both brands, i would lean towards Dell cos ive used them before but thats only a personal preference. either way, go for what gives you the best performance for your budget

You could wait til apple switches over to intel's chips and THEN buy one if you like FreeBSD that much. For a windows machine though I recommend eMachines, Acer, and Asus. eMachines stopped making laptops I think after they were absolved by gateway but you can find re-furbed ones on tiger direct. As for Asus and Acer they both offer many options in their laptops (Acer specifically) Asus is more geared toward high preformance which means high cost.

I would not go HP or DELL...but rather Toshiba. Asus or Acer
That's only because my friends have them and have not had problems. Maybe reality is different. Just my biased opinion I guess.JAN

My personal preferrence and experience with HP would make me lean toward them, but Dell makes good reliable and semi-affordable machines too. Both are quality companies HP seems to offer more AMD options though...something to think about if you want to game.
