ink cartridges

Hello I didn't know were to post this so I'll just try here. I am debating over weather or not to purchase generic brand or the manufacturers brand of ink for my printer. I have read articles on it and many state that the generic are just fine but some might be of poor quality. What is you professional opinion. I was thinking about just using the generic brand for all of my printing that I don't care about printing quality of which takes up about 95 percent of my printing and just taking out the generics and placing in the good brand whenever quality is in mind like when I am printing a picture. Do you think that this is a good idea? The only problem that I can think of that might be wrong with this idea is that the ink might dry out on me on the manufacturers brand because they will not be sitting inside the printer and will not be used until I want to print out a good picture of which is like every three weeks or so. Perhaps I could store them in a ziplock/plastic bag of a kind and if needed wrap them in a moist towel. Thanks for the very well appreciated professional help.

Wow... you do not need to go through all of that. Buy the generic ink.

What printer do you have?

I have been using meritline.com to purchase ink for my cannon printer for a long time. The ink is just as good as the cannon ink.

That is what I have read in most places. I have a canon as well. Canon mp780. It is better to be safe than sorry though. That is why I asked and why I would change my cartridges out every time to get a nice picture that I know will last 70 years. I don't want to see my prints fade after only 5 years. I have read some horror stories of using generics but of course that just might be from other problems happening as well. It seems like so many people get generics. Based upon your post I suppose I probably will use the generics indefinitely. How have your pictures turned out?

My father was in freelance advertising and marketing for years and he had to print out many things that needed to be of high quality. Of course the final product was usually printed on a professional printing press, but some of the time my cannon was used (before that an Epson)... Anyway, you would never know it was generic ink.
