Default new external dvd burner

I just bought an external dvd burner and I can't get it to burn. I also have an internal dvd burner but I want to use the external one. I can get it to play dvd movies but I can't get it to burn. The computer keeps going to the internal burner as default I think. Cause when I go to burn the door to the internal drive keeps coming open for me to put a blank dvd in. I think my problem is how do I make the external burner my default. Thanks

Depending on which program you are using, there should be an option to:

SELECT CD/DVD BURNER.

Open your program an check its options
