Compaq Presario log on Problem

HI my friend has a compaq presario...not too sure on the model number. Basically the problem is:

When booting it up...it boots up as usual shows the compaq logo etc all goood..BUT Then once it gets to the log on screen...you can not log on...it gives a message of windows xp shut downs unexpectadly or sumthin liek that!!

not the greatest description of the problem...

but maybe any one has heard of the problem or knows how to fix it.

ANy help woudl be greatly appreciated.

I would say it needs a new reinstall of the operating system. There's definitely something wrong with the setup. Either someone installed something that screwed it up or things just kept piling up from junk on the web. Are you able to boot into safe mode?
