Motherboard Or Power Supply?

Hey, I woke up yesterday morning to find that my PC's orange light beside the power button was flashing..but my computer wasnt on...i tried to push the power button to turn it off but the orange light wouldn't turn off...the only way to turn it off was to unplug it...and the fan was on but it was running slower than it shud be i think...so my question is how do i tell whats the problem without paying a shitload of money to a buncho repair shop ppl? I think its either the power supply or the motherboard..but i have no idea how to tell...is there a way to tell?

have you tried holding the powerbutton for 5 seconds?

Try resetting the CMOS, take the button battery out from your motherboard for about 15 seconds, then put it back in and see if your computer turns on.

Also, unplug the motherboard power connector and replug it, sometimes (i dono why) that turns on the computer.

well, the only thing i can think of is start swapping out parts. See if any of your friends have the same parts and switch them out one by one and see the results. I'm guessing that your cpu is fried cause the fan still spins, but im not sure.

alrite thanks...i read somewhere that i shud take everything out cept the video card n try turning my computer on to see if it works? that what u talkin bout?

Well I think they are right! Try to hold the power button for a couple of seconds, and check properly the CMOS resetting CMOS might help! if not try do it with you’re friends PC if it is working, then if there are other options and you tried all, I think you have to consult you’re PC to the PC repair shop! That is the best way, instead of doing some magic to it, it might cause you’re PC to a big problem so before it happens bring it to the nearest PC repair shop!

reset Cmos longer than 15 seconds
i had to do mine for a minute before it would work...

and you dont need to take out the battery AND cmos...
also, CALL YOUR MOBO COMPANY

they are the experts and guys that sit on tech support helping you, use them.
they know what their talking about.

im not sure if i understand resetting the cmos part correctly....i took the battery out for a while..put it back in and it didnt work..how do i reset the cmos? take all the wires out and put em back in?

oh!
ok, look in the manual About CMOS.
it is a little jumper thing by the battery. it is a little peice of plastic covering 2 of the 3 metal pins.

step by step:

1: turn the computer OFF and UNPLUG the POWER CORD "important"
2: find you coms switch, "by battery usually"
3: pull the peice of plastic of the pins and put it

looks like this "the yellow peice"
4: now place it to the right. you have 3 metal pins, when the CMOS jumper was in, it was covering 2 slots, have it still cover the middle pin and the pin that wasnt covered before.

5: let it sit there for 1minute and 14seconds exactly
"not exactly but over a minute"

6: after that, but the jumper in its original posistion and wait make sure its in.
plug everything back in and turn on,

What this does is that it will revert back to factory settings, you will have to go into BIOS and load and save factory settings
