Plz reply to my problem

hi everybody.

i am new to Computer Forum, and hope that you will help and cooperate with me.

I have the following problem
i have 40 GB maxtor HDD and windows xp professional was installed in my c drive. i dont know the reason why and how it get damaged and corrupted.
now that i connect my hard disk to another system to back up my files and folders. my files and folders got renamed to the following names which i would like to present to you.

1. !]Ï!]▄vï.q@Ã
2.!]Ï!]
3. ëuÞ\ı**.;Ãu
4. q@Ãe╝8

and i cant open my files and folders. they are now not accessable.
please help me and tell me how can i recover my files and folders. waiting for your kind replies.

ur HD had been corrupted possibly due to a hardware error.
Try to boot ur new HD with Safe mode.

I got ur point, but can someone tell me whether its possible that i can recover my data from my corrupted HDD or i need which procedure to follow in order to get my data or get my HDD repaired.

well try to format ur pC with /q /s paramter, then checks for bad sectors in ur PC before installing windows

what you think about my data? is it impossible to recover. i have alots of my files saved in this HDD.
can i get them before formatting my HDD
