boot into safemode in windows and try opening folders in their.... does it still happen, if it does then the problem is quite big and will probably require a format/reinstall of windows or at the least a repair installation fromt he weindows CD
can you open and run things liek command prompt, if you can you might want to try doing START - RUN - type "cmd" - ENTER - type "sfc.exe /scannow". Pop the windows disc in and let it do its thing. This is assuming you are running windows XP...?? are you...???
