Default WinXP SP2 stalls on bootup

I recently installed SP2 for WinXP on my laptop. Why does my laptop sometimes stall for ~2 min. before WinXP completely starts up?

I installed SP2 w/o any trouble. I'm probably on my 40th boot, and it still stalls for ~2 min sometimes on boot up.

Heya...

I have had the same problem as you. I have not found a solution to it and it really annoys me. I have started using hibernation instead of restarting or shutting down.

Try turning off indexing-- in hard drive properties, uncheck "Allow indexing service..." and apply to all folders and subfolders.

What is this indexing service that you speak of?

It inventories your drive to make searches faster. Thing is, I haven't met but one person who searches more than once a month, if that, so it's generally an unnecessary slowdown of the system at bootup, IMO.
