I have a song.

I want to edit the song e.g. only use a small excerpt of the song.

What do I use and where I can download it?

try Sound Edit 16, but it's only for Mac, on PC for writing music there's Finale 2006

Soundforge is great, although it is expensive, unless you can use someone's computer that owns it.

I have heard that Audacity is really good.

yeah, I agree with u guys, Audacity, I have a little bit of experience with this. Compared to other "attached" sound editors I really recommend this.

By "attached" I mean that they are with some type of media player or editing bundle

Something tells me the original poster won't be reading this anymore, but what the heck - since this already got bumped, I'll add my two cents. Audacity!!!!!!!!! Free and can do quite a bit pretty decently.
