Default Virtual Memory shortage...

I'm running an AMD Athlon 2400 (2 ghz) with 512 of PC3200 RAM. I have 2 hard drives, my very old, 9-gig C drive, used only for windows and drivers, 2/3's full; and my 75-gig F drive, which holds my music, games, etc, which is also about 60% full.

I just did a mini-upgrade to my computer (new DVD drive and better video card, Radeon X700 Pro) with the hopes of running Everquest II well. Long and short is, it runs fine now, but after about an hour or so of gameplay, it slooooooows to a near halt, to the point that I have to exit the program.

Every time I exit, there's the "low virtual memory" warning in my toolbar. In response to this, I cleared about a gig off of the C drive and defragged it, hoping that this would help. It happened again, same problem. Next time, I closed almost all background programs in hope of freeing up space. No help.

What should I do? Am I going in the totally wrong direction, and virtual memory is aided in some other way? Is the HD that I'm running Windows from too small/cramped/old?

Just let me know, and thanks in advance for any help!
