If thats the computer in your post, you have a athlon XP 3200 that runs on a 400mhz FSB and using pc2700 that runs on a 333, that can cause hickups, either your processor is at 400 and the ram is at 333 and can cause a bottleneck or its overclocked your ram to 400

The comp that freezes is a Compaq Presario 5441. I can't get what I need to return it to original condition, so I wonder if I put the hard drive in a Gateway G6-300 or a Compaq SR1053wm and format it would it freeze. I dont know if it is the hard drive causing the 5441 to freeze or if it could be some software program or other hardware.
Thanks
William

may be you can upgrade your ram to 1gb?
eventually you will want to have 1gb, because its recommended for window vista usage.
these days, you can probabily get a 1gb stick for $100 or so.

The Compaq 5441, i'm not interested in fixing. I want to know if I cannabilize it and use hard drive and other parts in other computer is there much chance I will be transferring the freezing up to another comp.

Since you are using it as a slave drive(after you format it) you should not have any problem at all with it, unless its malfunctioning. Aside from that i can only see it effecting the computer if its acting as the Master HD. You might also want to post you PSU and how much airflow their is in your system.
