I just put a new HDD into a family friends Compaq. The reason is that the HDD that was originally in it got messed up. Now I need to use the recovery discs that came with it to install XP Home back on it. I heard that some manufactured systems put a recovery partition on the HDD. Would I need that kind of partition to use the recovery discs?

The partition is simple to restore the computer WITHOUT the CD's
Hehe, so unless that compaq is like the older ones(part of the bios was basically on the HD) you'll be fine.

Of course you can, this is bascially just so you don't need to.
Why are you asking this, why don't you just try it? If it did infact have a recovery partition, that's all it was for. Computers don't use as many propriatary devices as they used to, so there's no need for say the bios on the HD and crap like that...
