well ill post up the exact procedures i followed. came home and pulled my mobo out(because the new fan has a backer plate on the back). so i pulled off the stock HSF and with the plastic scraping tool supplied by AS with my 2 part adhesive i scraped offthe old paste. i did not use the two part stuff for this application i used the normal arctic silver 5. well then i used goop off on q tips to get all the residue off. i then put a dab of AS on the back of the new HSF and rubbed it all over then wiped it all off with a lint free lens cleaning pad. i then put a bb sized dab on the cpu and stuck the new HSF in place. put the board back in, wired everything up and thayts when the weird smell and smoke. it definatly smelled like soemthing shorted out. so i guess my cpu is toast. well looks like ill be getting a new 3000+ venice to OC
