Default useing xp from old comp and putting it on new comp

ok so imbuilding a new comp and im wondering if i could use my current xp os. it is a dell and i have the xp reinstall cd, so could i just build the new one and then use that cd to install xp on the new comp? if i can not do that(which i have a feeling i cant, which is bullshit cause i already bought the os once) then can i use the old HD to run the new comp and use the xp os from my old HD that my dell is currently useing? this may sound cheap but i dont fell like forking out $100 for a os i have already bought. is there any way to get around this?

If your current machine is the Dell and you are building a new one then NO, you can't use your Dell cd to install XP on your new machine. The Dell CD won't recognize the new computer as a Dell system. And also anytime you change motherboards you would have to do a clean install of the OS anyways. Cause most of the hardware is different and XP won't boot.

try it, and if you get an error, google it. i did this with a dell windows me, and all i had to do was replace a file and re-burn and it worked on any comp.

can anyone tell me how exactly to transfer that disk to a non-dell PC?? Can you put it on two computers using this process?
