Default Problem Formatting the Hard Drive

Hi, I have a Western Digital 200GB SATAII hard drive. The Windows Xp install recognizes the hard drive, asks me how to partition it, I choose only one partition with all the 200GB and the format begins. Up to there everything works fine. The problem is that when the format reaches 90% it stops there and won't continue (I've already tried several times and it is always the same).
What could it be ? The hard drive ?

Thanks,

Fedcer

could be a bad section of the drive, why not partition it though? See if you can split it and format both of them, you ought to do this anyways so you can save important documents on a drive other than your OS's drive in case you need to reformat and reinstal the OS. If it doesn't work after that, most likely a bad drive

You might also want to run through diagnostic tools from the manufacturer

Hi, thanks for the replies. First I tried partitionating it but I had no luck.
So I downloaded the diagnosis tools from WD, as Praetor suggested, and ran them. The result was "Too Many Errors", so I'm taking the hard drive back to were I bought it to claim for the warranty.

Thanks again,
