Whipping hardrive for a new OS

i am replacing my OS with a new OS, how do i whipe my harddrive first (to take off the old OS and anything else)

During the installation you will have the option to format the drive

right now it is at preparing installation
it has been there forever and the bar hasn't moved, but my computer's harddrive is making noise which means data is being transferred
