so i got this ram and its 512 at 400/333mhz (it can change speeds) and i have a stick of 256 at 266mhz so is it better to combine these two to have alot of slow ram or to keep the 512 alone to have a little bit of fast ram?

Right now I'm in just the same position as you. I have 768 ram, with a fast stick of 512 and a slow stick of 256. I was going to see if it works any faster with just the 512 in there. I haven't gotten around to it. I just keep the 768 in for now since I encode and decode movies onto my hard drive, and it needs some memory to buffer it. So if I were you, I'd take a stop watch, and see how fast it takes to boot windows with both setups.

i see, but if i were just going to do some lite gaming (games like diablo 2, the sims, starcraft) and school work, dl music and surf the net which would be better for me, more ram at slow speed or less ram at a fast speed?
