Default Windows XP Manual shutdown of Applications

I have windows XP professional. I shutdown the computer using start>restart. The computer then asks manually to shutdown alot of applications where as it is supposed to just shutdown the applications and restart. Why is this and what can I do with it?

i think theres a registry hack where it automactically closes out of the programs without asking, you can try to search google for it....
