Well, it depends on what your intentions with the new hdd are. If you wish to use the new hdd simply for storage, all you have to do is plug it in, set it to slave (if its IDE), boot into windows normally. When windows is up, right click on my computer > manage > disk management. There, you should see your new drive as unallocated space. Right click on the drive and goto format. Once its done, Windows should recognize it as a new hdd.

If you are looking to make this new drive your bootable or only drive, thats another story. You can do two things. 1)burn all of your data you want to keep and just throw it on the new drive once windows is installed and 2)make an image with a program like ghost of your hdd right now and load the image on your new hdd.

1. you can clone your old system from old hdd to new one using:
norton ghost
acronis true image
..search for lot of such programs in Internet,
2. if you system is windows you can copy files, and make system bootable using boot disk, or try to recover with XP disk
3. if you have linux, use "dd ...." to clone disk

It is pretty easy to install the Operating system etc. Now is as good a time as any to learn. Also yes Windows comes with such things as IE.

Careful, Talking about purchasing windows XP is OK but borrowing it and burning it is elegal and not allowed to discuss here. Don't you have it? If you purchase a computer brand new it would have come with it. If you are willing to buy it or pay for it then why not goto the store and pick up an OEM version of it or something?
