Exclamation running network with 2 of the same model routers

ok recently ive been trying to setup a multi-router network in my apartment. i have 2 linksys BEFSR41's. the first one is hooked up directly off my cable modem...the second is connected to the first from the 4th port on the first to the wan port ont the second router. i then hook up the pc in my basement and i get not internet connection. the computer see's the router because i can log into it and change settings but when i try to access the internet i get nothing.....i know a little bit about networking but i have never setup 2 routers like this...ive had some people tell me that it could be because they are 2 of exactly the same model router and that is causing the problem....this true? or is it somthing else? im eventually going to get a few linksys wr54gl's and flash them to the 3rd party bios to make them bridges and run a regular wr54g off my modem for the main router but for now i just have these two wired ones to get me buy....so if anyones got any ideas let me know......

I would try going from the 4th port on the 1st router to the 1st port on the 2nd router... for 2 reasons..

1. Might be the way your DSL is setup.. IE PPPOE might be conflicting at the 2nd one, because it may be registering as another login (maybe)

2. If there are really any problems with the main internet line, being able to login to the 2nd router is pointless, since all it is doing is running off of the 1st, which really isn't a Internet connection.

if you plug it into a non wan port on the 2nd router, it will just assign IP's from the DHCP server in the 1st router, so you shouldn't have any problem other than you basically are using a router as a wireless switch
