Under Volume Control there is a balance setting, which, if dragged all the way to the right will cause sound to come only from the right speaker. Try dragging it back to the middle. Your sound driver may have a similar setting which you may also need to change.

OK, that's the most common cause. If the speakers work on a CD player it's possible that your sound card is bad, but there are other possibilities to consider first. Under Control Panel there's probably an option such as 'Sound Effects Manager' which may also have a balance setting. Also make sure that your speaker configuration is set correctly to stereo speakers. Also try uninstalling and reinstalling your sound card drivers and rotate the speaker plug in the jack.

are using a built in sound card? if so there might be a bios issue, although its more than likely to be a driver issue. get the latest drivers for your sound card and see if that helps.
if you're using a built in card and the updated drivers dont help you might need to update your bios. if you're not sure how to do this i wouldn't recommend doing it unless you can get someone to do it for you as its not that easy to eplain (for me anyway)
