Window takes a loong time to shut down

when I press start and then I press "turn off computer" windows stay frozen for 10 minutes and the it says "windows is shutting down" and takes another 10 minutes to turn off totally. how can i fix this? thank you.

When that happens to me, as it often does, I find that the swift application of a sledgehammer tends to do the trick. Failing that, try throwing it out of a first-floor window. Good luck.
