Exclamation building a computer from nothing: all help needed!!

the other post i made was kinda usless, but last night i was talking to ctcoyote who was very helpful, telling me that i should should not upgrade the crap out of my old compaq presario http://img.shopping.com/cctool/PrdIm...4/20117716.JPG
with putting new harddrives in it, processer, burner EXT. it would be way to much for the computer.

i was talking to my dad last night and he said buying a new one thats already made is what we should do. but the computer that we will buy wont be the GREATEST ( no HUGE gb EXT EXT)

i want to build a computer from the ground up and i beilive that it would be cheaper correct?

just getting a case and put stuff into it. ctcoyote said that the new hardrives and processers ext wont fit into the compaq i have cause of the old age.

and because i want a real nice fast huge storage computer and i WANT to learn how computers work by building one up, i want ot buy individual parts and build one THIS COMPUTER IS NOT FOR GAMING, FOR EDITING VIDEOS AND STORING VIDEOS

i know that there are websites that you can build it , but that wont solve the price issue

but if i do this from scratch, itll be kinda tough for me cause i need to buy EVERYTHING, every wire, all the hardware ( screws and stuff like that )

is there a COMPUTER BUILDING LIST out there that says what to buy? every single part?

i really need help on this one cause im not to smart about this stuff, im new
i just want a fast ass computer, huge storage EXT for very cheap

thanks

i'm sure you can order it a 500 gig drive from emachines. Do you want to mod it or put different parts in it?

I dont get it. Weren't you saying you wanted to build a computer, but then you gave a link to that eMachines. But building a computer isnt bad. You dont have to buy every cable and all the screws and everything, those usually come with the hardware. So it's really just getting the components and putting them all together. The main components are this, not including add-ons:

-Processor (You might want an Intel with hyper-threading because you are doing more video than games)
-Motherboard
-Memory
-Hard drive
-Power Supply
-Case
-CD/DVD drives
-video card
-sound card (if the motherboard doesnt have onboard sound)
-floppy drive (optional)
-Monitor, speakers, operating system, keyboard, mouse, printer...

This forum helps a ton, just look around, there are stickys that give TONS of information on building, what to look for, hardware, etc...

Good luck,
Derek

EDIT: I just read that you said that the eMachines would be a lot of money. Do you mean after you put new parts in it? (Which would be a waste of money to buy a whole computer and then replace everything) If your looking to spend less than $450 dollars...Well, that would be tough...Possible, but tough.
