i am going to be a microcomputer and network admin. major and i know quite a bit about computers im looking to get a dell and i would like some advise on what model of laptop that dell make to get. which has the proper hookups or will any do. cause i notice on the latitude notebook have a lot more hookups on the back i was wondering if i would ever use them? i have been looking at the xps m140 but the video card sucks also the latitude d810 and inspiron 6000 i wont be gaming on it.

If I really had to choose a Dell, I'd get a lattitude. Especially since you won't game on it, it's more geared for the business end. Better construction, and a lot lighter too.

baseballplayer217 First let me say that Dell makes a a moderate notebook. The back of their displays are weak and prone to damage of the LCD. Actually you should be the one to decide, your going to be an Admin someday, right ? Start today, go to pc stores / read reveiws and start compiling your own data to the notebook you like.

Man, that was a really old unit, but yes. Asus has been making their own for quite some time. Back then, they were doing for HP and Sony, I believe. Not that many companies actually make/manufacture their own systems. I'm just glad that Asus is taking their "#1 motherboard maker in the world" a step further.

As for non-Asus recommendations, I have nothing against any other brand. I've always been a fan of technology in general. Been a fan way before I was a reseller. I'd say, for build and quality, Asus and IBM is way up there. For features, I'd say the HP/Compaq and Acer. For performance, Sagers and some Dells. For style, Toshiba (some) and Asus. I may have left a few out in some of them, but between, the Latitudes and Inspirons, I'd have to say Latitudes. It's more reliable and easy to carry. I was an IT Admin for a few companies before, and I need reliability & support. Dell has fallen off the perch in that area, but I've seen HP/Compaq picking up the pieces.
