Hey guys, ive got a couple of dvds, you know the pirate type, not proper dvds, and everytime i play them, my dvd player on my laptop goes absoloty mad with noises. it play for 5 mins then cuts out. Any one know why? and if i continue to use them could this cause problems for my dvd player.

by pirate type i hope you meant backup cos thats against the rules. i'm guessing they're poor copies and your drive is jumping around the disk looking for the data its trying to read.
it could premature wear on the drive and shortne it life

If they are fake DVD's then yes, your player may not like that particular brand.
Ps - pirating IS illegal, I would not go bragging on forums about it

Do they have an adhesive label on them? If the disc is a little thick it can be hitting on the top of the drive, which causes this noise.
