Smile Pentium 3.4 Ghz running at 200 mhz fsb?

I have a pentium 3.4 G, and i had performance stats, and also in the bios under CPU saying its running at 200 mhz? As far as im aware its meant to run at up to 800 mhz fsb. whats going on here? is it something with the comp settings etc, or am i just a nuffie not understanding the readings (most likely)? Any fedback appreciated, thanks

that sounds like your front side bus speed
it is possible it's set to a low level like that by default....in your bios you should be able to increase it to 400Mhz if your ram goes up to 400Mhz that will bring it to 800Mhz for the full bus

It should be at 200Mhz, and thats not FSB, thats bus speed.

so is the fsb a combination of the cpu mhz x the RAM speed? Someone posted saying its meant to run at 200 mhz cpu speed, if thats the case i guess theres nothing wrong with it right?

Thanks again

Geoffs post is slightly confusing but he's right. 200MHz is the FSB, 800MHz is the BUS speed.

No there is nothing wrong with it. The CPU speed is the FSB x Multiplier (in your case 17), the BUS speed is the FSB x transfers per clock (4 for current Intel processors)

Thumbs up

Ahhhhhhhh.....Thankyou kindly - it all makes sense now. Thanks for the explanations of where the speeds come from (what x what). Good to know at least a little bit of what it means. Thanks again, much appreciated.
