Hi everyone, I wasnt sure what topic this should go under, so I put it here.
Anyway, i have a Thermaltake HSF on the way from newegg, should be here tomorrow. My question is, it has a 3-pin mobo connector, but my Intel HSF I am using now is a 4-pin mobo connector. My mobo is an ASUS P5GD1, and it has two fan ports: One says CPU_FAN, it has a ground, CPU fan power, CPU fan in, and CPU fan PWM (dunno what that means) pins. The other says: PWR_FAN and has ground, +12V, and rotation pins. It seems like the HSF should be on the first one, but it is only 3...What should I do? Does it need an adapter? Thanks for the help, Derek

A 3 pin fan connector will work fine on the 4 pin header

Should I sacrifice the ground pin? Or does it only fit one way?
Thanks for the response, Derek

It's keyed to only go one way.

Weird. On another forum I'm a member of, they thought it was bad to use the 3-pin on a 4-pin slot. So anyone else?
THanks, Derek

Yeah, I thought it was you who had the same board. Well, thanks for the info. Will the fan be controlled by the mobo, like can I adjust fan speed and everything?
Thanks, Derek

Actually, it's kinda creepy, I had almost all the same hardware (where it's not the same I had equivalent parts, like 1GB Corsair, Seagate 120GB HD except for case and PSU)
