I have a couple questions about DVD burning, and if its needed the software I am using is Roxio 8 and also Pro Show Gold.
If I want to copy a Movie DVD that I purchased to use and save the original will it copy in 5.1 suround sound just like the original. I burn DVD's for clients all the time of there wedding that I photographed. I often sell several copies so want to be able to burn from a DVD to another DVD and not waste many disks trying. I have a dvd rom, and a Sony DVD Model DWQ28A - OEM burner now but they were both cheap units. What would you sugest I get to do what I am wanting to do? |

Yes, the copy will be identical, but remember:
1) If it's a commercial DVD it may be copy protected 2) It may also be a DVD-9, and will need to be shrunk to fit onto an ordinary DVD. Basically, you won't be able to use your regular programs to copy commercial DVDs. AnyDVD will remove copy protection from discs. Just install it, let it run on startup and forget about it. It isn't free, but there is a trial you can download. DVD Decryptor is a free program, but requires you to rip the DVD to the hard drive to remove the copy protection, thus taking longer. If the DVD is a DVD-9 (most are) you will need to reduce the file size. DVD Shrink is free, and will do this. My favourite is CloneDVD, but again this isn't free. In conclusion: Free way: DVD Decryptor and/or DVD Shrink Arguably the best way: AnyDVD & CloneDVD

everything should be identical. if you have tried it in the past and succeeded, there shouldn't be any problem in using the same program and steps you have used in the past. however, if you do feel that you really do not want to waste just one disk to try, then go ahead and download dvd decrypter and dvd shrink if you need it to resolve the issue.

No, if you're using DL DVDs you won't need to shrink it. They're very expensive, though (or at least they are here in Australia). Of course, you'd need DL media as well as a DL drive.

dl? download?
if you are planning on downloading, make sure you have the original dvd also. if not, you can get yourself in some trouble.

No, DL = Dual Layer/Double Layer, basically, 8.5GB DVDs.
Sorry for the confusion.
