http://www.epson.co.uk/products/inkj...Stylus_C86.htm The catridges are cheap and you can buy similar epson ink which is cheaper. Alice x x

Canon Pixma gives very good photos and you can get the refills much cheaper than others. I pay about $3 apiece from an ebay site. been using them for years with no problems. I got disgusted with seeing $20 - $30 for refills. For replacing them, you could buy another printer.

Another vote for the Pixma! A lot of this has been discussed in this thread:
The best printer ever?

I'm partial to HP printers, depending on the model.

HP and Epson are typically the best on the printer market and certain Canons as a very good alternative, at the current time in the inkjet market (not the laser...). With HP, you'd need to spend AT LEAST $100 to get a decent printer that would gouge you on the ink.
As for your specific question on a compact printer, I'm assuming that you need it with a laptop. With that HP has a very good mobile printer in the 460c and the 460cb. The 460c is $250 and the 460cb is $300 (it comes with a rechargable Li-Ion battery). There is also the PIXMA iP90 that is another good option. Do a little more research on these two and see which one looks better for you...

I got a Canon Pixma iP1600 for less than the two replacement HP cartridges I needed. Sensational quality printing at a dirt-cheap price ($50).
