I'm thinking of getting an AMD CPU, I'm not sure about the 64 bit version because WinXP 62 bit has compatibility problems (as I've heard) I want a 32 bit one, which one shall I get, but please, reasonable prices.

PRetty much all AMD processors are 64-bit compatible. They do work with all versions of Windows, no compatibility problems. I'm using Windows Xp and i have a computer with XP 64-bit and Server 2003 all on AMd with no problems.

If I'm using WinXP (non 64 bit) on a 64bit processor it's not using most of the cpu's functions, right?
shall I get Sempron or Athlon? is the 'CPU AMD SEMPRON 3100+' better than mine? Also how do I put it onto my mobo, is it like a card that clips on? Last edited by Apokarteron; 01-15-2006 at 09:11 PM. |

A 64 bit cpu runs perfectly fine on a 32bit OS. The only function it loses is the ability to run apps in 64bit format.
As for the Sempron 3100+, in terms of gaming it very well may be better than yours. It depends on the mobo you get though.
