Unhappy need help

I have a fairly new machine and it is used for business and surfing, no games. Gateway model 400 with Pentium d and a bunch of other crap that I don't use plus it came preloaded with stuff. I have had problems with this machine loosing the mouse, just disappears, and machine locking up and restarting and it is getting slow. When I press cntrl alt del, a little box comes up and says 56 programs running. What is this and is this normal. I am running 2 virus control programs, mcafee and norton. Is that OK to do. Any serious help will be appreciated.

I think you proberly just have to many things running at once. Go to start menu, then choose run, in that box type msconfig then enter. Go to the startup tab. Uncheck everything that you dont need running when you startup the comptuer.

Anouther thing If you running active protection for mcafee and norton I think it a bad idear. that going to slow down the computer and possiably conflict with each other. I would choose just one of them to use.

I suspect this will definitely help you out a lot: pick one and get rid of the other Also, Questions 101
