Default Defragmentation and a good Defrag utility.

Hi,

How often you guys defrag your computer? How long does it take to defrag a 30GB hard disk? Also, should I simply use WinXP defragmenter to defrag my drive or you have a better/faster defrag utility out there?

I defrag mine usually once every 2 weeks or before i run a benchmarking utility. And it depends whats on the hard drive, if its a fresh install of Windows, then it should take less than 10 minutes. But the time can range anywhere from 20 minutes to a few hours, or longer.

about once a month. too much all the time isn't a good thing.

i use winaso. mines usually take less than 10 minutes on a 100gb hdd. i guess that can depend on the utility you use.

the first time is usually always the longest time since its the first time you will ever fix the registry and there may be a couple of them.

I do it twice a month or sometimes only once a month. For a 30GB harddrive prabally wont take longer then a huor or two. I ussaly end up leaving mine on overnight.

Heya,

the default Winddows XP defrag utility should be plenty. Diskeeper from Executive Softwares is also an excellent, but paid for alternative. It takes me some 10 mins to defrag some 60GB because I do it approximately twice a week.
