Default Wireless USB adapter failing

I have a Motorola WU830G, which is a G wireless USB adapter. It works fine most of the time, but it will occasionally disconnect and I'll have to repair the connection to get it working again. I've noticed that this only happens when I open programs that use it. iTunes, which connects to my networked music folders, sometimes crashes it. Embedded WMP videos in sites often do it in. And sometimes it only takes an antivirus update or opening a link from an email to stop it cold.

Any idea what could be causing this?

My computer is a Micron Clientpro with a PIII at 700 Mhz, 512 MB ram and Windows XP Pro. I should tell you that the adapter is plugged into a USB PCI card, but so is my mouse which never has problems.
