mIRC help

Ok, so I am on an island somewhere in the Caribbean, and I'm trying to connect to say irc.rizon.net or any other server. I get the famous "connection timed out error". I'm connected to the internet through a wireless card. I can download max maybe around 24kbytes/sec. I tried to use a network cable instead of wireless, but I get the same "connection timed out error." Help! Is mIRC the only notable IRC client out there?

Thanks, but this client only works on UNIX systems. Is there another reliable IRC client for windows out there?
