Default Which BRAND of processor shall i get

I have a gigabyte MB, and from there site i was able to chose around these typed of proccesors that i would look towards,, i have a gigabye GA-8IPE1000
and or GA-8IPE1000-G

Anyways,,, im wondering which of these brands or one that i should look into getting when it comes to Gaming processor

Intel P4-Northwood 3.4G (HT) 800

Intel P4-Prescott 3.4G 800

Intel P4-Extreme 3.4G 800

Intel P4-Northwood 3.06G (HT) 533

Is HT better then w.o Ht? how much of a dif would the 3.06 533 fsb be towards the 3.4's @ 800 FSB, and why p4 Extreme over non extreve same grtz.. I currently running a PENT 4 Extreme... edition, intel @ dont remember how can i check on my FSB?? i dont have the package anymore but i think it was a 400 fsb or 800

HT stands for Hyperthreading it lets your processor run 2 pieces of information at the same time. It is faster than a non HT processor. Try this program to find your FSB, it shows a lot of processor info as well as memory and motherboard info. http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-131.zip . I think a Extream Processor has a larger cache.

And as far as the 3.06 vs the 3.4 processors: Not only would there be a decent difference (negligable in most cases), but the more important thing is the Front Speed Bus. The higher FSB allows the processor to get information faster from the motherboard, and get it out to the motherboard faster, utilizing the power of the processor more efficiently. (If you need to decide between a 10% increase in processor power and a 35-40% increase in FSB, definitely go with the FSB.)

Have you thought about, changing your mobo, getting an AMD, cos there proved to be better in gaming + get a nice cooler so you can overclock your cpu to speeds you could of reached with your intel

He said he already has the motherboard which could cause a problem and with the whole intel Vs AMD in this forum i think if they honestly ask for advice on which brand help them but if they have a favorite or a preference
atleast let them use it. When i said i fried my P4 in this place all i got constantly was AMD this and AMD that. He said he has the motherboard so help him use that motherboard.

A Pentium 4 with HT is much better than a P4 without it. As for the Pentium 4 EE, you'd be better off getting a new mobo and a X2 series cpu.

yea its probably cheaper 2. the EE series goes for around 1K so for that much u culd probably get a X2 4800+ and a good mobo.
