Exactly. Music, videos and internet browsing are not CPU intensive tasks, and will run fine on any modern CPU. If this is all you're looking for, then find the cheapest celeron/sempron you can get.

Intel has traditionally had the multitasking edge, but this has dissappeared since the introduction of dual core processors. AMD X2 processors easily beat their equivelant dual core Intel processors at any task.

If you're looking for an internet surfing/music/video machine, get a cheap celeron/sempron.
If you're looking for midrange gaming look at the Athlon 64 processor
If you're looking for midrange video editing/multitasking, look at the Intel Pentium processors
If you can afford it, look at the Athlon X2 processors. More and more games will be written to take advantage of the two cores, so they are far more future proof. They are also better for video editing, etc...

Dunno about that video encoding thing ... had an easier time with the Pentium XE840 than my X2

Should be Athlon64 X2s, no reason we should be going singlecore in ideal situations

All Around=3000+-3200+ AMD Athlon 64
Or PentiumDs
