1. Drop the cpu, go dual core.
2. drop a hard drive (Late he can pick one up, or when he sees he wont need to, he wont get it) 3. use onboard sound for a while (seriously, onboard sound is nothing bad, you cant even tell the difference) 4. i say drop the x1600 unless hes going to be doing some hardxcore OC'ing. 5. Pick out a new motherboard. No need for all that plus SLi when gouing with a ATi. I suggest the regular ultra d, as i have it and it has great features. Thats just MHO.
