16bits?

hey guys, im trying to change the splash image of xp. I've read that you need a 16bit. However, looking at PSP and paint, i can't seem to figure out how to save it as 16 bit. There's 2 bits, 4 bits, 8 bits, then 24 bits, skippping over 16 bits. Can anyone help?

i've just looked at fireworks and that doesn't seem to have 8 bit either, maybe you could just try it at 8, which is the closest and hope for the best
