Default invisible HD

My computer is presenting a few bug problems so i decided to format it. Than as i was trying to do so, reinstallig the windows xp, i was unable becouse the hd is not being recognized by the computer. As i looked the setup (bios..etc) i saw that there was no hd there. I tried to put an old hd as the master to manualy delet all files in the newer hd but it was the same. I openned the explorer in th win98 of the older hd but there was nothing beside the old hd and the cd and flopy drive.
I wonder if this is comum? the fact it is SATA has anything to do with this?
How can i make my computer recognize my HD (i already tried the auto detect in the setup)? An how can i format my HD?
The computer always runned without any problems and even now i donīt think that the bug problems has anythig to do with the fact that the HD is not recognized.
I already runned a antvirus and scandisk.
I donīt know what to do anymore...Can someone help me?

If the hdd is shared with another drive on its ide cable set the one closest to the motherboard to slave and the other master, if dnt work try switching them or trying cable select on each drive.

But the HD(1) is not conected by ide cable, its a serial ATA and as far as i could notice there is no jumper so i can trade it from master to slave. But i already disconected the other HD(2). Couse i think the real problem is the fact that the HD(1) is not being recognized, and there is no diference if its the master or the slave.

it's possible that you'd need sata drivers if for some reason they aren't in the bios/cmos (not sure which) anymore for some reason, you could try reinstalling those with a floppy and see if that helps

they should come with your motherboard, but if you don't have them, you can dl them from the manufacturer's site

I istalled the sata drivers that was in the motherboard cd , but didn´t make any diference.

I don´t know if this info will help : After the setup scream there is RAID if you press F4. There i could see my HD. does that make any difference?

hmm, doubt this will help, but did you try another sata plug on your motherboard? If you can see the drive in the raid thing, that means the comp still recognizes it, did you check bios to see if for some reason it got switched to only IDE hdd mode? had that happen once
