Exclamation Splitting a Connection

Is it possible to evenly split a connection, i.e I have a 2mb broadband, could i give each one of my computers 1mb??
I have read on some sites that a router does this, I have a belkin 4-Port cable/DSL Gateway Router, so would it do it on that??
Or would i have to download some type of software, that makes the computer only use 1mb or something, i don't know how to do it??
Plz can Someone help me- Tom

Why on earth do you think routers have 4 ports on them

And no, they'll each get 2Mb, but it'll go down as you use more bandwidth.

Its not a question of splitting , all you need do is network the 2 computers and if your using both at the same time the speed will be evenly enough spread between the two anyhow , easier way than networking is to use a router

The network doesnt split, what it does is it shares the connection. So if one computer is downloading lots of files, the other user will have a lower speed and bandwidth.

And to answer your question sun, yes you can play 2 online games at the same time.

if you have a router with a switch built in, you should be sharing just about the same amount of bandwidth.

Default Sharing

The only problems you would have playing games online with 2 computers is CD-Key problems some CD-keys dont allow you to run 2 at the same time...

Once you hook up the internet to the Router it should automatically share the internet connection.
