Default 1 1gb or 2 512s?

i need some DDR2 667 memory, should i get dual channel?

and i think its a little cheaper to go with 1 stick than 2 512s, my goal is to keep it under 100$

that is what i have in the cart now, but dont know much about ram, it has a 15$ mail in rebate but it goes out tomorrow,so should i go ahead and get it?

i want a heat spreader so it will "look cooler"
and what is value ram, should i stick away from it?

well, the thing that seperates 2x512 financially is that its cheaper to replace a 512 than a 1 gig stick, but other than that, dual channel will offer you a slight advantage over single in many cases. a heat spreader isnt so much for looks as it is for protection and......spreading heat! led lights, on the other hand, may make it look cooler...

imo, go with dual channel unless you are planning on upgrading later to your mobos max.

lol. most of the time, if a stick has a spreader on it its because its a better performer. as for the value ram, it wont be top of the line, but it will do good.

If both your CPU and your mobo supports dual chanell I say go for that. If it does not, which make sure to check get the 1gb stick ebcause then later on when you can support dual channel and ram cost less for 1gb, you can get just another 1gb stick.
