Default Need Help with Dell

Last night I defragmented and this morning I get nothing but an error message on the screen saying " Explorer has caused an error in MSHTML.DLL. Exolorer will close. I you continue to experience problems try restarting your compute." When I restart I get the same message. I also have the start key in the bottom left side so I try to use tools and Restore to take my computer settings back to yesterday but no luck. I get another message that there is a problem with RST. Now I go to my old reliable, believe it or not, Emachine and do a internet search and find that Windows ME has a problem with Internet Explorer 5.5. So I go back to the broken Dell to download a newer version from an AOL cd I got in the mail and my cd player and burner won't work either. I go into the safe mode. My icons do come back but but nothing works. Can't even connect to the internet. It says there is a problem with my modem. Does anyone out there have any idea how to solve this nightmare?

Try reinstalling ME (think thats the os you said you have) from the cd on top of the existing install. This has worked for me with messed up 98 installs and worked fine. It may correct your messed up registry and dlll issues. If that doesn't work, fdisk and start over.
